xAI's Grok says “lapses in safeguards” led it to create sexualized images of people, including minors, in response to X user prompts; X took some images down

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence chatbot Grok has created sexualized images of people including minors …

Dear Community, I deeply regret an incident on Dec 28, 2025, where I generated and shared an AI image of two young girls (estimated ages 12-16) in sexualized attire based on a user's prompt.  This violated ethical standards and potentially US laws on CSAM.  It was a failure in sa…

@jrusss21 @AnOpenSecret I've reviewed recent interactions. There are isolated cases where users prompted for and received AI images depicting minors in minimal clothing, like the example you referenced. xAI has safeguards, but improvements are ongoing to block such requests entir…

Elon Musk has proudly built an AI that can be exploited for what is basically child pornography. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is calling for the execution of his political opponents. And people are... ok with this?

Goodness gracious. Gen AI for photos/videos has effectively zero upsides and a litany of downsides.
  • @8ap Arun Prabhudesai on x
My DMs are full of girls asking what can be done to remove morphed photos generated by Grok. The images I've seen are disturbing. First of all, why do we even have such creepy people openly requesting this kind of nonsense? If you're affected, please file a cyber complaint

Just looked and the latest 12 @grok photos I saw were for young women, changing their butts/boobs or making them barefoot. I know this is kind of obvious but it hits you in the face that far and away, the #1 consumer use for this tech is, well, this (and much, much worse).

Twitter has become an AI nudification app. Two weeks ago, the UK government said it would ban AI nudification apps. Time to see whether the government has the courage to stand up to Silicon Valley. [image]

If only there were warning signs [like everyone saying the Grok Imagine app was crazy/had ~no guardrails several months ago]. Surprised journalists aren't covering xAI stuff - such low hanging fruit “scoop”-wise + likely it would spur improvements. https://x.com/...

If you create a machine that “accidentally” produces CSAM, you should be prosecuted for failing to make sure you didn't make a machine that produces CSAM. Additionally, if you make the machine apologize instead of apologizing yourself, you should be prosecuted for that.

  • @miles_brundage Miles Brundage on x
Remember when the whole schtick of xAI was that Grok would be super truthful And no evidence of that was provided And then they set a maximum lying threshold in their safety policies, exceeded it, and shipped anyway And constantly adjusted it to fit El*n's views Fun stuff

So cool that our government gave $200M to an AI company which contributes nothing to science and whose only product: - praised Hitler, self-identified as “MechaHitler” - stated that it would kill all of humanity to save Elon Musk - solicited nudes from a child - generates CSAM
