The tension

Coverage circles MWC’s dependence on both large exhibitors and physical attendance. The event has historically concentrated flagship launches, but Samsung’s Galaxy S8 decision showed that vendors can choose separate launch timing, while the 2020 withdrawals and cancellation showed how quickly health and travel constraints can undermine the gathering. Its renewed 2024 relevance is therefore tied to whether companies such as Qualcomm and Honor continue to treat Barcelona as a meaningful stage for strategically important announcements.
