Rockstar confirms a “network intrusion” by “an unauthorized third party”, leading to the GTA VI leak, and says the game's development will continue “as planned”
The confirmation follows a GTAForums post containing 90 purported GTA VI gameplay videos, where the uploader also claimed access to GTA V and GTA VI source code. Rockstar’s statement distinguishes the company’s development plan from the public circulation of unfinished material.
The subsequent coverage arc shows the project still reaching a first GTA VI trailer ahead of a planned 2025 launch, while the alleged intrusion retained a longer IP-security dimension as GTA V source code later appeared to circulate.
First-order effects
Rockstar publicly attributes the GTA VI material to an intrusion while maintaining that the game’s development schedule is unchanged.
The uploader’s source-code claim expands the immediate exposure from gameplay footage to potentially sensitive material for both GTA V and GTA VI.
Second-order effects
The leak reduces Rockstar’s control over when unfinished GTA VI details enter public view, imposing an exclusive-content cost even as development continues.
Rockstar’s later disclosure of another breach-related incident makes protection of development and company information a recurring operational issue rather than a one-time response to leaked footage.
If source-code exposure repeatedly follows game-development intrusions, major publishers will have to treat security controls as part of protecting both production workflows and launch exclusivity.
The trend: High-value game franchises are becoming enduring targets for data theft, making information security increasingly central to preserving control over development assets and release marketing.
Fair play to Rockstar for speaking out and acknowledging what happened yesterday. Unfortunately what has happened, has happened. We k ow a new GTA exists, although the fact they haven't said VI makes me wonder if it'll be called something else. Onwards and upwards though.

To my fellow devs out there affected by the latest leak, know that while it feels overwhelming right now, it'll pass. One day we'll be playing your game, appreciating your craft, and the leaks will be relegated to a footnote on a Wikipedia page. Keep pushing. Keep making art. ♥️
Not that there was much doubt, but I've confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend's massive Grand Theft Auto VI leak is indeed real. The footage is early and unfinished, of course. This is one of the biggest leaks in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games

To the “who do leaks hurt” crowd: everyone making and supporting the game. If carefully managing how a game was promoted didn't matter to its financial success, then companies wouldn't do it. /1 https://twitter.com/...
