The Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest in the US with 600,000+ students, says a ransomware attack over the weekend disrupted its operations

their speed, clarity & focus on partnership is commendable. Great example of how to keep stakeholders informed, including potential impacts & what to expect next: https://achieve.lausd.net/... https://twitter.com/... Stefanie Dazio / @steffdaz : The attack on @LAschools sounded alarms across the country, from urgent talks with the White House & National Security Council after the first signs of so-called ransomware were discovered late Saturday to mandated password changes for students/employees. https://apnews.com/... LAUSD has been hit by ransomware. With >500k students, it's the 2nd largest district in the US. It's also the 50th US edu sector entity to be hit so far this year: the list includes 26 unis/colleges & 24 districts with 1,727 schools between them. 1/3 https://twitter.com/...

This ransomware incident against the Los Angeles Unified School District is pulling big resources: the White House brought in Department of Education, FBI, CISA for incident response. Maybe offensive action possible as well on this one? https://twitter.com/...

I want to thank all @LASchools' students, families, & staff for the ongoing recovery from this week's cyberattack. While all critical systems are active, access continues to be limited to those who have reset passwords. We're working with @Microsoft to safely accelerate process.
