Facebook fixes a bizarre bug that filled user feeds with endless posts from celebrity accounts for over three hours
Followers are posting memes to take advantage of the carnage — Facebook is currently experiencing a bizarre bug that's filling user feeds with endless posts from celebrity accounts.
Facebook’s fix restores normal feed selection for affected users after more than three hours of celebrity-account posts overwhelming timelines.
Celebrity accounts lose the abnormal distribution their posts received during the malfunction.
Second-order effects
Meta’s feed-ranking teams face added pressure to detect and contain ranking failures before they reshape what large audiences see.
Repeated feed defects make reliable ranking and recovery a more immediate product-quality concern for Facebook, rather than an invisible back-end issue.
Third-order effects
A recurring pattern of ranking errors shows how centralized feed systems can amplify a single operational failure across users and publishers at once.
If such incidents persist, Facebook’s differentiation will depend not only on what its ranking systems prioritize but on how safely it can deploy and reverse those decisions.
The trend: Social platforms’ algorithmic feeds are becoming a core reliability surface, where ranking failures immediately alter distribution at platform scale.
It's carnage out there folks https://twitter.com/...

Earlier today, a configuration change caused some people to have trouble with their Facebook Feed. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

This morning Facebook pushed bad code to prod. Facebook users feeds are being inundated with messages to popular celebrities from individuals they do not know or follow. It has resulted in the social media website being virtually usable (more than before). *Not our images https:/…

Facebook's feed has broken in the strangest way — all I can see are comment posts from celebrity pages that I forgot I even followed. Now everyone's asking if Facebook is hacked or if it's down, and some people are posting their Venmo on Daft Punk's page. https://twitter.com/... …

Just when you thought Meta couldn't mess up more, everyone's waking up to Facebook posts intended for celebrities rather than actual posts from pages and people 🤯
