Mark Warner & Marco Rubio to Federal Trade Commission chairwoman Lina Khan about Chinese-owned TikTok: “In light of repeated misrepresentations by TikTok concerning its data security, data processing, & corporate governance practices, we urge you to act promptly on this matter.” …

You could smash TikTok into a million pieces with a giant patriotic hammer and the Chinese government could just buy the same data from a million different sources because we don't believe in rules. stop being myopic, corrupt weirdos and pass a decent privacy law, ffs.

I see lawmakers are truly dedicated to this whole hyperventilating exclusively about TikTok thing. It's crazy but what if I told you the entire app/telecom/adtech snoopvertising industry is a zero accountability privacy shit show? https://twitter.com/...

Good step, though this might be more of a matter for natsec agencies rather than FTC https://twitter.com/...
  • @markwarner Mark Warner on x
For years, TikTok has assured lawmakers that user data - and business operations - were effectively firewalled from the People's Republic of China. I'm working with @MarcoRubio in light of reports neither claim is true.
