📣 New Features 📣 We've added new ways to tag and improved ranking: - Product Tags - Enhanced Tags - Ranking for originality Creators are so important to the future of Instagram, and we want to make sure that they are successful and get all the credit they deserve. https://twitter…

@MattNavarra As we lean more into recommendations it's becoming increasingly important that don't overvalue aggregators, as that would be bad for creators, and therefor bad for Instagram long term.

“Meta has made it clear that it sees Facebook and Instagram as creator-focused platforms going forward, rather than as tools for people to connect with their friends.” 🤮 https://twitter.com/...
  • @mosseri Adam Mosseri on x
@siruihua ... It would be hard. If the account is an aggregator, we'll more likely be able to detect that it's not original. If it's someone pretending to be that original creator, which is less likely but could happen, it'll be hard for us to know.
  • @mosseri Adam Mosseri on x
@AnthonyQuintano The idea is if you made it, it's original. It's okay if you edited it outside of Instagram and then bring it in via the gallery. Identifying “originality” is hard though, so we will iterate over time.

This is great!! It's the right move for creators, for the integrity and safety of the platform, and the long term growth of Reels. Now let's talk implementation! There are “quick and dirty” ways to prioritize originality and “harder but better” ways. 1/ https://twitter.com/...

@mosseri It will be a great day when original creators have more clout than hubs who leech content off of creators and benefit by selling products off of the site.

@mosseri @MattNavarra interesting you say this. i follow a lot of food video people and have started seeing a lot more aggregators swipe their stuff and sorta push down the OG creators, which is probably aggravating to them curious how this'll work. guessing creators will need to…

@mosseri ... So if someone steals a TikTok video and uploads it to Reels before anyone else, how would the algorithm predict the originality of that video?
  • @qwongsj Queenie Wong on x
@MuckyMann ... Well sometimes content gets pulled from other platforms as well such as TikTok and then reposted to IG or other social networks so it might not be as easy as it seems.
  • @mosseri Adam Mosseri on x
@QWongSJ @MattNavarra We can't know for sure. We build classifiers to predict how *likely* something is to be original, but that's not knowing. We look at things like who's in the video, and if we've seen the video before.
  • @tibor @tibor on x
@mosseri @MattNavarra Is natively posting to two accounts and/or using the collaborator function considered “not original content” as well?
  • @social_allie @social_allie on x
Instagram is clearly trying to woo creators away from TikTok in an effort to increase time on platform. But unless they shore up that creator revenue model, I don't see that happening anytime soon. https://twitter.com/...

@mosseri Does this do anything to address the prevalence on Reels of videos that have been reposted from TikTok?
  • @mosseri Adam Mosseri on x
@MattNavarra To clarify, we already do this, but we're leaning more in this direction and plan to do so more and more over time.
  • @mosseri Adam Mosseri on x
@tibor @MattNavarra If you made it, it's original.

    I wonder how Instagram's AI for detecting originality will fair against @OpenAI's DALL·E... https://openai.com/... https://twitter.com/... https://twitter.com/...

@mosseri out of interest... Why is instagram leaning into this more now. What's changed?
  • @tysonhutchins_ Tyson Hutchins on x
Instagram says it will begin to reward originality over aggregators. I do miss the days when I saw something in my feed besides reposted viral videos & sports highlights. Will be interested to see how easy it'll be for us to notice the change. https://twitter.com/...
  • @muckymann Steve Mann on x
@mosseri ... Should be pretty easy right? You've got content ID systems if only on audio. If content is the same then timestamp is the deciding factor, no? Anyhow, it's a good call. Literally every “IG Hack” group is focused on gaming the algorithm reposting content.
  • @anthonyquintano Anthony Quintano on x
@mosseri You might want to clarify what reposted content vs original content is. Meaning is content from my camera roll seen as reposted content and only stuff recorded and edited in the app is seen as original content?
  • @nitram010101 Martin on x
@mosseri Bro very fun but fix the disabled accounts appealing system. It aint working!!
  • @thekittycoach @thekittycoach on x
@mosseri There are 3 video formats in IG now. So complicated. Better do two only. Reels that can exceed one minute to 3 minutes. And no more IGTV.
  • @wongmjane Jane Manchun Wong on x
I'm often irritated by the amount of stolen content in Instagram's Explore feed. Glad to know they're finally working to fix it Here's to a new frontier where content farms manipulate the stolen content to pass off as original to the algorithm https://twitter.com/...
  • @khairulaming @khairulaming on x
You should remove IG feed videos and make Reels longer than 1 minute. There are too many video formats on IG and they give us headache. Please focus on one video format only https://twitter.com/...
  • @qwongsj Queenie Wong on x
Instagram says it's going to try to “value original content more” through a ranking change. I asked how does IG know who is the original creator of a piece of content? Head of IG gives more details in this answer. 👇 https://twitter.com/...
  • @qwongsj Queenie Wong on x
@mosseri @MattNavarra How does Instagram know who is the original creator of an image or video? A user can post content and claim it's their own, which is what we've seen on social media with Russia Ukraine content.
