India-based UrbanPiper, which helps restaurants manage multiple food delivery services, raises a $24M Series B from Swiggy, Zomato, and others

Context & Ripple Effects

UrbanPiper sits in the middleware layer between restaurants and India's food delivery platforms, and its new round is funded by the two platforms it integrates: Swiggy and Zomato. For Swiggy, this continues a capital-deployment streak beyond its core delivery app — it put $700M into its Instamart express delivery business in December, then led Rapido's $180M Series D three days before this round. The company's ability to write these checks traces back to its own fundraising arc, which ran from a $80M Series E led by Naspers through a $113M Series I at a reported $3.6B valuation.

The notable structure here is co-investment: Swiggy and Zomato compete for the same restaurant orders, yet both now hold stakes in the software those restaurants use to route orders across platforms. That makes UrbanPiper a shared dependency rather than a neutral vendor.

First-order effects

  • UrbanPiper gains $24M plus boardroom access to its two largest integration partners — Swiggy and Zomato now have a financial stake in the pipe carrying their own orders to restaurants.

Second-order effects

  • Restaurants using UrbanPiper's order management face a vendor whose investors are also their channel competitors, sharpening questions about data visibility and pricing leverage for any restaurant negotiating with Swiggy or Zomato; smaller delivery aggregators, meanwhile, plug into the same investor-backed integration layer.

Third-order effects

  • If platform capital keeps flowing into restaurant-side infrastructure — as it has into express delivery and mobility via Rapido — the middleware layer consolidates around companies aligned with the biggest aggregators, structurally shifting bargaining power in the restaurant-platform relationship.

The trend: India's consumer internet platforms are recycling their mega-rounds into the infrastructure and adjacency layers around their core markets, buying influence over the stack their own competitors depend on.
