The first SXSW in three years was taken over by crypto-mania fueled by marketing hype.  —  It did not really hit …

“What I found was a deeply underwhelming, mundane, and frankly pathetic series of demonstrations and setups that suggest if these digital technologies do take over the world, it'll be because of how much money their biggest boosters have.” https://www.vice.com/...

i have read almost nothing about sxsw this year but @bigblackjacobin's sublime dispatch on the pathetic idiocy of the american tech space is telling me all i need to know https://www.vice.com/...

I went to #SXSW for a week and saw things you wouldn't believe. Humanoid rabbits minted as 3D NFTs. I watched people struggle to explain the purpose of the NFT project they were observing. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain (i hope) https://www.vice.com/..…

Amen, with certain exceptions. “If crypto, NFTs, web3, and the metaverse really do take over the world, it'll be because of how much money their biggest boosters have and how easy it is to generate interest as opposed to anything of true social utility.” https://www.vice.com/...

“Most of the hype around crypto, NFTs, web3, and metaverse is being generated...by already wealthy [largely white male] participants eager to bring fresh blood to the casino.” The most impressive aspect of SXSW? Second Life mods projected onto screens. https://www.vice.com/...

“Despite all the talk I heard about ushering in a new era of diversity & inclusion, it was hard to not notice that every room felt largely the same: mobs of white wealthy men who quickly volunteered that they worked in finance, tech, marketing, or some buzzy fusion of the three.”…

    Sounds like I didn't miss much at #SXSW? https://www.vice.com/... #NFTs #web3 https://twitter.com/...

Journey to the centre of the hype. There's a great metaphor in one of the promotions bar being too covered in bees to approach, but this review of SXSW's collective panning for Metaverse-gold by @bigblackjacobin is great. https://www.vice.com/...
