This isn't just chips, it's vertical integration and partnerships. Google or Qualcomm could make the fastest chip in the world and at this point, I think it would make literally no difference.

even with the new blue (which I kind of like), the iPad Air/mini colors continue to be bizarre (and arguably hideous) https://twitter.com/...

The new blue on iPad Air is a hard yes. https://twitter.com/...

You wanna know why the iPad Air 5 is probably getting M1? It's cheaper to use the board from the iPad Pro and change minor parts for the iPad Air than to make a completely new one with the A15. It's not to be the super powerful iPad or to make a point, it just saves Apple money.

Game, set, match Apple for creative professionals. It's over. There is truly no point to making an Android tablet that costs more than $500, if there ever was. Google and Qualcomm fumbled that football, repeatedly, and you'd have to be a fanboy to keep buying into that circus.

@StormSurgeMedia Well I now think M could come to Pro iPhones.

With Apple introducing the M1 to iPad Air, it's only a matter of time before it trickles down to entry level models. And I see no future in which a $500 Android tablet renders 4K video as fast as a gaming laptop.
  • @rdrv3 David Ruddock on x
The future of Android tablets is light duty, low cost convertibles and detachables. Something that gets you a keyboard and a desktop UI, but with very few frills. Maybe it's a smart display when you're not using it. Anything more than that is folly.
