Payhawk, which offers spend management software to European businesses, adds $100M to its Series B at a $1B post-money valuation, up from $570M in November 2021
European spend management startup Payhawk has added $100 million to its Series B round that I already covered back in November.
Context & Ripple Effects
Payhawk had already progressed from a $20M round for its corporate-card and payments software to a $112M Series B for an all-in-one business financial-management service. The additional capital materially raises the valuation attached to that same Series B.
The financing lands as Paris-based Spendesk had also raised $114M at a $1.5B valuation, making fundraising scale and valuation a visible competitive marker among European spend-management providers.
First-order effects
- Payhawk gains an additional $100M to support its European spend-management offering, while its post-money valuation rises from $570M in November 2021 to $1B.
- Payhawk’s existing Series B investors and new backers now have a substantially higher valuation benchmark for the company.
Second-order effects
- Spendesk, which had recently secured its own $114M round, faces a better-capitalized Payhawk in the contest for business customers seeking cards, invoice management, and payment tracking.
- The two large financings make funding capacity a more consequential differentiator for European spend-management vendors alongside product scope.
Third-order effects
- If repeated across the category, spend-management software is likely to be financed and valued less as a narrow corporate-card tool and more as a broader business financial-management platform.
The trend: European spend-management providers are using large late-stage rounds to expand from discrete expense tools toward all-in-one business finance software.
