Binance, Coinbase, and others deny Ukrainian requests to freeze Russian and Belarusian accounts, citing “economic freedom”, but will comply with sanctions

Binance, the world's largest exchange, said “unilaterally” banning users “would fly in the face of the reason why crypto exists.”

I'm asking all major crypto exchanges to block addresses of Russian users. It's crucial to freeze not only the addresses linked to Russian and Belarusian politicians, but also to sabotage ordinary users.

Crypto exchanges are refusing calls to freeze Russian accounts. A Binance spokesperson said doing so “would fly in the face of the reason why crypto exists.” Kraken's CEO said the move would violate bitcoin's “libertarian values.” https://www.vice.com/...

Crypto is a way of evading the regulated and managed financial system. That means money laundering and evading sanctions as well as escaping dictators' capital controls and hyperinflation. Your view of it is basically inverse to your view of the system https://decrypt.co/... http…

Good that crypto exchanges didn't freeze all Russian accounts. Crypto is freedom and it's the only thing Russian citizens still have. Also, why would you want to destroy the lives of people who didn't ask for this war? Or didn't ask for Putin as their leader? https://twitter.com/…

Remember that crypto exchanges are saying they *won't* ban Russia. If the tech actually worked to provide “economic freedom”, they'd say “we can't”. If they'd gave a shit, they'd say “we will”. But they're both fraudsters and fascists, so: they won't. https://www.vice.com/...
