Australian HR service Employment Hero raises A$181M at a A$1.25B valuation led by Seek Investments and says it is used by 80K SMBs, after raising A$140M in July

Context & Ripple Effects

Employment Hero's raise cadence is the story: a $45M Series D at a A$250M valuation in March 2021 became an A$140M Series E at A$800M just four months later, and this A$181M round at A$1.25B lands another seven months on top of that. Seek Investments has now led multiple rounds, making it the anchor backer of Australia's fastest-compounding SMB HR platform.

The round also lands in a crowded lane: London-based Hibob hit a reported $1.65B valuation in October 2021, and Homebase raised $70M for SMB team management tools the same month Employment Hero closed its Series E. The corpus's later AU$263M Series F at AU$2.13B confirms the trajectory kept climbing past this round.

First-order effects

  • Seek Investments deepens its position as lead backer, and Employment Hero gains fresh capital to push its recruitment-and-HR platform beyond the 80K SMBs already using it.

Second-order effects

  • Hibob and Homebase now compete against a rival whose valuation roughly quintupled inside a year, pressuring both to raise again or differentiate on the hourly-worker and cloud-HR segments they each target.

Third-order effects

  • If the pattern holds, SMB HR software consolidates around a handful of heavily capitalized regional platforms, with investors paying up sequentially for the same payroll-plus-recruiting thesis across markets.

The trend: SMB-focused HR software is drawing rapid successive mega-rounds, with Employment Hero's valuation ladder from A$250M to A$1.25B mirroring the funding pace at Hibob and Homebase.
