As Meta dips under a $600B market cap, it may avoid antitrust liability since it falls below the threshold set by recent US House bills as a “covered platform”

- Facebook owner Meta closed with a market cap below $600 billion on Tuesday for the first time since May 2020.

Meta $FB fell below $600 billion in market cap today - a key threshold in several of the tech competition bills being considered by Congress. Lots can change, but it goes to show just how hard it is craft targeted legislation https://www.cnbc.com/...

FB trading at about 5x revenue really doesn't make economic sense to me what am i missing?

@lauren_feiner If it stayed below $600b for two years, I would submit it is unlikely to be exerting serious enough market power to warrant the tougher scrutiny. In other words, the legislation is working well and exactly as designed. https://twitter.com/...

If Congress lowers its $600b threshold just to target FB, everyone will look ridiculous. https://www.cnbc.com/...

@scottlincicome Also much of the legislation was specifically about “Facebook” and has already been made obsolete by the change to Meta.

not only did most of the heavily hyped “antitrust reform” bills narrowly focus on “big tech” and ignore telecom monopolies and banks, now they don't even technically apply to the primary company that motivated the effort in the first place https://twitter.com/...

Facebook today fell below the $600 billion market cap threshold set by antitrust bills. And yes, that figure was intentionally set to cover companies like $FB. BUT: Senate bill is a 180-day trading average that matters. House bill could be moment in time.

If u believe $FB tanking by 34% since Thu is even a remotely reasonable outcome of the guidance it provided, this means you believe Zuckerberg knew this was coming. Hard to believe. If u rule out unreasonable market u have to assume we are missing relevant data others know.

Amazing, congress wants to pass antitrust bills requiring any company with above $600B market cap be effectively treated as a monopoly. $FB stock has crashed so hard that bills wouldn't apply to it if passed. 😂😂😂 But Tesla would still be treated as one according the bills.🤣 https…

What a clown show. They've lost all trust and now they're just falling over embarrassing themselves. One year of market cap wiped out trying to convince civil society their surveillance advertising business is both necessary and good for everyone including small business. https:/…
