It's a new year, and I've decided it's a good time to replace myself as the CEO of Signal.  —  I have now been working on Signal for almost a decade.

I don't think many people appreciate how lean @Signal was as it grew iOS was me and @FredericJacobs at a certain point both on the side of school, Android was a person or two or zero, plus or minus a few people for support or web and it all was held together by superhuman Moxie. …

It's nothing sort of incredible how far Signal has come. I remember using beta versions of it and struggling to just send a text massage. There was an era where trying a phone call was pretty much pointless. Now it's my primary communication app for me and many others I know

All CEOs (and Executive Directors) should eventually step down. 10 years is a good bar. This is the right move. https://twitter.com/...

@matthew_d_green There's not really any way to make news like this “unsudden.” I've been building Signal towards this for a long time & been talking w/ candidates for a while. I'm sharing publicly now to help w/ the search, and transitioning out to focus on it w/ more time bc it'…

Thank you @moxie for doing the work to make Signal sustainable and not dependant on a single person! I'm excited to remain on the Signal board with Moxie & @brianacton as we look for a new CEO & ensure that Signal continues to reflect its core values of safety + privacy. ❤️ https…

Here's to Moxie “sitting alone on the sidewalk in the rain late at night trying to diagnose a service degradation.” Individuals dedicating their lives to privacy can and do make a huge positive dent in the course of history. https://signal.org/...

It's very difficult to believe that 1. @moxie quitting Signal (which has been dabbling with crypto things) exactly one day after 2. posting an anti-web3 article are two wholly unrelated events. https://signal.org/...

Interesting to see that Brian Acton, one of the cofounders of Whatsapp, is the new Signal CEO. You might remember him from the time he told everyone to #DeleteFacebook and left $850 million in stock options behind because he wanted to ragequit that badly https://www.forbes.com/..…
