Creepiest capability of the new Snapdragon? A feature called “Always-On Camera.” Qualcomm says it's meant as an additional ambient sensor, letting your phone detect whether you (or someone else) is looking at the screen, so it can act accordingly. Still kinda hate it. https://twi…

Wish I could say I was super optimistic about this chip, but alas I am not. https://www.theverge.com/...

In a completely.. expected.. turn of events, @qualcomm still suuuuuuucks. And good luck buying an Android device (that you'd actually want to own) that isn't using qualcomm SoCs https://twitter.com/...

Qualcomm just announced its latest Windows on Arm flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. Built on 5nm, it promises up to 85% better CPU performance and up to 60% faster GPU performance. It's gonna need a lot of perf to even come close to M1 https://www.theverge.com/... htt…

Qualcomm takes pains to make it clear it designed this feature with privacy in mind. The visual data never leaves the Sensing Hub, & one potential application is the phone automatically shutting off the screen if it detects someone spying over your shoulder. Still kinda hate it.

@anandtech does a bit better by focusing on the details, but fails to mention that “20% faster performance” (QC's claim) would *still* put it behind both the A15 *AND* the A14 on single and multi-core workloads: https://www.anandtech.com/...

i wrote about Qualcomm's icky new always-on smartphone camera feature. I don't think it should exist. https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Not mad that the coverage of the Qualcomm event lets them totally off the hook for failing to deliver competitive performance at inflated prices, just disappointed. @verge here with big “our-ai-rewrote-this-press-release-in- the-house-style” energy: https://www.theverge.com/...

I want more technical details on Qualcomm's newest premium SOC but this article from @anandtech uncovers more of the details I was hoping for. Interesting it is being built on Samsung 4nm process. https://www.anandtech.com/...
