The GitLab story shows the multiple paths to winning in software that 10 years ago few believed. You can build massive value around open source. Your biggest competitor can get acquired by a major player, and the market still grows massively. You can be 100% remote. And so on.

GitLab is an all-remote company with around 1,300 employees. They just IPO'd for $15B today. All-remote works at scale, and all-remote companies can be extremely valuable. Congrats to the @gitlab team and @sytses! #remotework https://www.cnbc.com/...

“For @JoeMontana, GitLab marks his firm's first IPO, though he said “we have 12 or 13 more unicorns in the portfolio,” referring to start-ups valued at $1 billion or more. They include @anduriltech...and autonomous vehicle testing start-up Applied Intuition.” https://twitter.com/…

Joe Montana invested $100k in GitLab in 2015 At top of IPO range, that stake is now worth -$42 mln It's his first IPO. We interviewed him: https://www.cnbc.com/...

Impressive gains, but not quite as impressive as last week when Twitch opened up 100% after failing to properly secure its systems. https://twitter.com/...

GitLab jumps 22% in its Nasdaq debut after pricing well above range $13.5 billion market cap at open 58x revenue multiple - higher than all but 4 companies in Bessemer Cloud Index (https://bill.com/, Snowflake, Cloudlfare, Asana) https://www.cnbc.com/...

Gitlab IPO values it at $11B. Microsoft buying Github for $7.5B which seemed outlandish at the time now looks like a massive steal. Not as bad as Facebook & Instagram or Google & YouTube but still another great bargain. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Joe Montana and his VC fund turning a $100k investment in GitLab into $42 million. Not too shabby https://twitter.com/...

“We're all pretty pumped,” Montana said in an interview this week, while vacationing in Italy. https://www.cnbc.com/... https://twitter.com/...
