SpaceX's 100,000-terminal milestone arrives two years into a commercial service whose scaffolding was built earlier: the FCC's approval of a 4,425-satellite network with a requirement to operate half of those satellites by March 29, 2024, then the first operational batch of 60 satellites in May 2019. Terminals are the consumer-facing half of that machine — satellites alone generate no subscribers.
