A skeptical look at Clubhouse, where most conversations are boring and whose audio-centric, synchronous content may be far less compelling after the pandemic

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! … Share Medialyte  —  Clubhouse in the dog house  —  On Sunday night … Tweets: @rafat , @elenistefanou , @mathowie , @mathowie , @martinfehrensen , @niviachanta , @jbenton , @markstenberg3 , @terrygtnguyen , @markstenberg3 , @sabrinamaddeaux , @erinmikail , and @simonowens Tweets: @rafat : Absolutely loved this analysis, I agree with all of it, fascinating to watch develop but unlikely for me : Portrait of a Clubhouse skeptic by @MarkStenberg3 https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Eleni / @elenistefanou : Great summary of Clubhouse from @MarkStenberg3. “the need for privacy and total concentration to participate — mean that Clubhouse suits quarantine just fine, but what about when real life returns?” https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Matt Haughey / @mathowie : I don't even care if it's the most popular thing on earth in five years, I'm gonna be a self-righteous “I don't even have an account on clubhouse” guy at every party forever. Matt Haughey / @mathowie : I like technology and jump at any new shiny thing that comes out but Clubhouse is maybe the first social app in years that I have zero interest in. Audio only? No thanks. Invite only? Naw. The VC world loves it already? jfc. It's like a dream list of reasons to avoid something. @martinfehrensen : “what's to dislike about an app filled with people who work in a similar field, make a similar wage, and share a similar worldview?” - https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Nivi Achanta / @niviachanta : for once in my life i finally feel UNgaslit by an analysis of Clubhouse Thanks @MarkStenberg3 for this piece & for shooting at linkedin too: “Clubhouse has not yet devolved into an audio version of the most hellish social media on the planet...” https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... https://twitter.com/... Joshua Benton / @jbenton : A solid bear's case re: Clubhouse (I tend in the same direction) https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Mark Stenberg / @markstenberg3 : in this week's Medialyte, what else? Clubhouse! despite the positive buzz surrounding the invite-only, audio-centric platform, i'm not yet sold https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... @terrygtnguyen : clubhouse is for people who love to talk, who have managed to make their rooms boring, incredibly niche, or both! https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Mark Stenberg / @markstenberg3 : In many ways, Clubhouse is the anti-Quibi: Where one counted on normal life and flopped in quarantine, the other is killing in quarantine but poised to flop in normal life. https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Sabrina Maddeaux / @sabrinamaddeaux : Interesting read. “In many ways, Clubhouse is the anti-Quibi: Where one counted on normal life and flopped in quarantine, the other is killing in quarantine but poised to flop in normal life.” https://twitter.com/... Erin Mikail Staples / @erinmikail : today @MarkStenberg3 captured my thoughts and feelings on Cl*bH*use. “Good conversation is a dance, not a lecture, and Cl*bh*use fails to make that distinction...” I'm not yet convinced that this won't be the next big evil social platform. https://medialyte.substack.com/ ... Simon Owens / @simonowens : I've received a few invites to join Clubhouse, and I suppose as a media industry journalist I'll eventually need to try it out, but it just sounds like such an exhausting platform to participate in, and there are only so many hours in the day. https://medialyte.substack.com/ ...
