My thoughts on Facebook and Twitter going after the Substack opportunity: In short, I hope they go all in. The information ecosystem is at a crisis point and the world needs drastic action to unpoison the well. This is a good start. https://blog.substack.com/...

Substack's constant harping about how much its top ten writers make ($15m) is moot. If it's truly a platform for getting writers paid, how much the middle ten people - those without an existing following - earn is what matters https://blog.substack.com/...

What also matters: that if substack becomes a unicorn, and it's well on its way, how many billions do the VCs and founders make compared to the average writer. https://twitter.com/...

Substack business model incentivizes thoughtfulness. the hunt for retweets on Twitter discourages nuance. always happier after writing my newsletter than tweeting manically https://twitter.com/...

Substack announces it's passed the 500,000 paid subscriber threshold. It announced it had 250,000 in mid-December. That means it could conceivably reach the 1 million mark by early summer. That's amazing growth. https://blog.substack.com/...

“There are now more than 500,000 paid subscriptions across Substack, and the top ten writers collectively make more than $15 million a year.” Wonder what it would look like if they paid as much attention to its mid/lower tiers as it does to its top 10. https://blog.substack.com/.…

The social media giants are going after the Substack opportunity. Good. The world needs it. We invite them to go all in. Put writers and readers in charge. https://blog.substack.com/...

Today, Substack blogged “Welcome, Facebook and Twitter. Seriously.” on its platform. Twitter has just acquired a newsletter startup, Revue. Facebook is supposedly working on newsletter tools for journalist and writers. https://blog.substack.com/... https://twitter.com/...

I mean, what else is he supposed to say, “those companies might beat the everloving snot out of us?” I hope Substack wins. I don't want to see walled gardens start to encroach on the email newsletter ecosystem. https://twitter.com/...

@SubstackInc @Google still trying their best to avoid paying for snippets. Now they have pay per leads too just like @Facebook. Hard to imagine how kind they are to their writers with the way their corporate incentive is structured.
