YouTube bans conspiracy theory content, such as QAnon or Pizzagate, that justifies “real-world violence”, but stops short of banning QAnon content outright
QAnon videos are still coming up in recommendations, and they act as the superhighway to red-pilling. BUT, so many folks have already been radicalized by this content. And YouTube acts less like a community than FB or Twitter. https://www.nbcnews.com/... Ej Dickson / @ejdickson : BREAKING: YouTube, one of the platforms that have arguably done the most to mainstream QAnon, is finally banning the conspiracy theory, removing tens of thousands of videos and hundreds of channels: https://blog.youtube/... Oliver Darcy / @oliverdarcy : Earlier this year, I raised the fact w/YouTube that there was a significant volume of content on its platform accusing top celebrities of being complicit in child sex rings. The YouTube spokesperson at the time repeatedly declined to say whether such content violated its rules. https://twitter.com/... Josh Billinson / @jbillinson : now that all those horses are out of the way, I can finally secure this barn door https://twitter.com/... Travis View / @travis_view : QAnon followers commonly credit the YouTube videos “The Plan To Save The World” by Joe M and “Fall Cabal” for their radicalization. Those videos were also axed by this policy. If YouTube catches ban evasions, this crackdown will be substantial. https://twitter.com/... Kevin Roose / @kevinroose : YouTube claims that changes to its recommendations algo months ago cut views on QAnon content, but the movement was still hanging on. Will be interesting to see whether big Q influencers like Patriot's Soapbox pack up and move, or just tone down slightly and keep going. Ben Collins / @oneunderscore__ : As far as we can tell, all of the major radicalization-driving QAnon videos — some of which have tens of millions of views — are still up at press time. YouTube said enforcement will take a minute. We'll keep you updated. https://www.nbcnews.com/... A reminder that as YouTube bans Patriots' Soapbox, it remains up on Roku, even though Roku previously removed another QAnon channel & prohibits content that is “unlawful, incited illegal activities, or violates third-party rights.” https://www.mediamatters.org/ ... https://twitte…

A sign that this QAnon YouTube takedown is truly sweeping: A lot of Q influencers on YouTube who have literally made a living falsely accusing people of pedophilia and Satanic murder are threatening to sue YouTube as their grift is now in shambles. https://www.nbcnews.com/...

YouTube's updated policies will prohibit “content that threatens or harasses someone by suggesting they are complicit in one of these harmful conspiracies.” Videos that discuss QAnon/Pizzagate without targeting people/groups won't be affected. https://blog.youtube/...

I'm not a Q person.. but this is censorship. If you're doing this you need to also remove flat earth videos, Bigfoot, ufos. Where do you draw the line? We should be able to see differing viewpoints. Instead you're forcing us to only see your “approved” viewpoints. https://twitter…

In our reporting, YouTube was QAnon's largest remaining radicalization driver. This enforcement action puts YouTube somewhere in between Twitter (make QAnon accounts harder to find, ban overt harassment) and Facebook (outright ban on QAnon content). https://www.nbcnews.com/...

YouTube has been a major asset for QAnon since the early days, when redpill videos like “The Plan to Save the World” got millions of views and hooked new believers in with false claims about Satanic pedophiles. They built their own talk shows, influencer networks, etc.
