A day after the officer who shot Breonna Taylor wasn't indicted, Facebook employees face disciplinary action if they acknowledge her in a profile pic. Workers of color are LIVID over the new no political profile policy — especially cause Zuck said it was about protecting them.

The Zuckerberg realpolitik stuff in here is super interesting, but this caught my eye. Facebook's own engineers are scared about what the Groups algorithm is doing to people. https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Facebook gladly peddles disinformation, won't take down posts from the President inciting violence, and has helped mainstream Qanon But a profile picture honoring the memory of a murdered woman is a bridge too far, according to Zuckerberg? https://twitter.com/...

Zuckerberg has a new post on FB's Workplace about stricter rules for staff discussions. 🙅♂️ More moderation 📈A curated ‘Trending’ section 🖼 No using a profile pic to support causes 🤫 Tighter defintion of what is “respectful communication” https://www.cnbc.com/...

Oh, so you *can* enforce rules about what kind of content is appropriate for your platform when you want to. Interesting. https://twitter.com/...

Employees must now use avis of themselves or their initials, tho there is a pre-approved BLM frame. TL;DR a small minority of employees pissed in the pool and caused this change and leadership didn't want to take a stand.

UNREAL: The irony of @facebook continuing to preach FrEE SpEeCH to defend allowing hate, disinformation and violence on their platform while also telling employees they can't change their corporate profile shot to acknowledge Breonna Taylor is off the fucking charts. https://twit…

👇🏽 One of the many new restrictions on internal expression at FB. Employees can still use a limited number of photo frames (including one that says Black Lives Matter) but their profile photos have to be of themselves or their initials. https://www.wsj.com/... https://twitter.com…

If you proposed that Facebook improve the quality of discussion on Facebook by doing more moderation they would of course note that it's less profitable to do it that way. https://twitter.com/...

I am not a labor lawyer but taking away employees' right to use their profile pic to support causes sounds like a violation of the NLRA to me, especially since I believe this has been previously used by workers in a manner akin to union buttons... https://twitter.com/...

Wow! Zuck knows the problem AND knows the solution. Too bad he won't apply the solution to actual Facebook for everybody else. This is exactly like conservatives who defund public schools but send their own kids to private schools. https://twitter.com/...

Mark Zuckerberg wants “respectful communication” in the workplace. But didn't he try to fire Palmer Luckey in 2016 for his political views before realizing he legally couldn't do that and then just phased him out? Set a high bar for civil discussion, but the CEO should abide, too…

Some of the details are in this CNBC report, though it does now quote Zuck directly. What's remarkable is that disccusions among employees/contractors have created some of the exact same problems we see on Facebook the public platform. https://www.cnbc.com/...
