YouTube TV is raising its monthly rate to $65 from $50, due to “the rising cost of content”; some ViacomCBS channels are becoming available on the service today

YouTube TV is getting another price hike, making its live TV streaming service less competitive with the cable TV services it aims to replace.

Big problem with this: I cut the cord because I didn't want all the damn channels. @YouTubeTV is adding 8 channels I don't care about but yet, I have to pay for them. Not the trend you want to see. https://twitter.com/...

Exactly as I predicted — cutting the cord costs the same as “the cord”. The problem isn't the cord, the problem is bundles including channels we don't want. What we all really want is a la carte channel selection — wake me up when someone offers that and I actually save money... …

YouTube TV recently turned 3 years old. As we work to build the best TV experience possible, we have a few updates. This includes major additions in channels and an updated price. Read the full blog here → https://youtube.googleblog.com/ ...

How does YouTube TV think anyone is going to pay the same amount as all the major streaming services COMBINED: Netflix 4k: $15.99 Hulu (no-ads): $11.99 HBO Max: $14.99 Apple TV+: $4.99 Prime: $9.91 Disney+: $6.99 Total: $64.86 YouTube TV: $64.99 /mo https://www.theverge.com/...

1/ “Wholesale transfer pricing power” is a phenomenon I've written about often. If you don't understand this power, you can't understand something like a YouTube TV price increase. The best way to teach people about it is to tell a story about John Malone. https://techcrunch.com/…

In the middle of a pandemic YouTube just increased their prices by $15! That makes A LOT of sense! To someone other than me! https://tinyurl.com/...

I stand corrected. The plan was to raise prices 25% and then raise them 30%. https://twitter.com/...

Well, it was a good idea but the economics were never going to work. One reason why Apple has stayed out of this game. Networks could never give Apple what it would need to make a cable alternative work. https://twitter.com/...

Only reason I have YouTubeTV is so that I can record news shows and have easier access to make clips for the channel. I wish they would stop adding channels. Don't need 99% of what's there now! I'll see if my tax guy can still write all of this off... https://www.theverge.com/...

This stinks: @YouTubeTV just raised their monthly prices to $65, the highest of any of the providers, and tries to justify by telling us about all the additional channels. It's cable all over again. https://youtube.googleblog.com/ ...

.@YouTubeTV, which launched at $35/month in 2017 and is currently $50/month, is raising its monthly cost to $65 after July 30. Soon, we may all return to cable bundling after all. https://youtube.googleblog.com/ ...

The cord cutting dream has been dead for a while now. Content costs money. Especially sports content. Those costs get passed down to you one way or another. https://twitter.com/...

In March @YouTubeTV dropped a number of sports channels that brought a large amount of fans onto the platform. Now a significant price increase & none of the additional channels are sports Early adopters probably shopping for the promise cutting the cord originally offered https:…

Remember when it only cost $30/mo? At what point is this just considered cable again? Paying for a bunch of channels I don't want. https://twitter.com/...

By moving from $50/month to $65/month for just one streaming service, we've finally made cord cutting just as expensive and less convenient than having a cable subscription. Inconceivable that Comcast's actually winning on customer experience at this point. https://twitter.com/..…

It's been a fun journey: subscribing to YouTube TV when it was a great deal, saying “ah that's tough but no big deal” when the price went up to $50, and now realizing we've closed the circle at $65 https://twitter.com/...

It's kind of funny seeing tech companies try to reproduce a cable bundle and finding that it costs about the same as what cable companies charge. https://youtube.googleblog.com/ ... https://twitter.com/...

YouTube TV is $65 a month now. I wonder what the licensing costs for these channels would be if fewer of them were owned by cable network that compete directly with OTT TV services. https://www.theverge.com/...
