Apple's Identifier for Advertisers, critical to tracking mobile ad spend, will become opt-in with iOS 14, a privacy boon for users and a big loss for marketers

zero attribution for users who do not *opt in*. Prices are going to go way up for bad traffic. It risks killing the app install/UA market as it exists today in terms of scale and effectiveness. @privacydigest : Apple's privacy changes represent ‘tectonic shift’ for digital ad industry | Ad Age Critics say ad personalization, measurement and other ways marketers reach consumers will cease to function > They got to greedy so I'm OK with that. https://adage.com/... @thezedwards : As ad tech / privacy reporters put their finishing touches on stories about Apple's decision to give users “choice to opt-out of ad targeting, per app*” (*with significant loopholes for some SDKs, & no SDK directory), remember that Facebook did this too.. Defaults matter most. https://twitter.com/... Glenn Gabe / @glenngabe : Apple is working on SKAdNetwork, a new framework for mobile attribution -> https://www.forbes.com/... https://twitter.com/... Harlan Krumholz / @hmkyale : As I understand it, @Apple has just pushed cause of #privacy by surfacing the shenanigans by apps to spy on us to give information to marketers. Now we will need to give explicit permission for that sharing. [We need that for medical records too!] https://www.forbes.com/... https://twitter.com/... Chris Messina / @chrismessina : That @Apple is neutering the #IDFA only points to an increasing drive towards the importance of #SignInWithApple and owning the digital credentials of the user. Dare Obasanjo / @carnage4life : Apple basically implemented an iOS version of GDPR in iOS 14 whose economic impact will likely be just as huge to app developers as GDPR was to publishers & ad tech. In the context of yesterday Apple announcing IDFA as opt-in later this year, Facebook publishes quantitative research showing 50% reduction in mobile app publisher revenue when *personalized* ranking (of ad selection) is removed. https://developers.facebook.com/ ...

After the #cookies, #Apple targets the #IDFA the mobile ID for ads. Developers have now to specify if they are sharing App #data with other companies. Without once naming them, this new announcement is clearly targeting #Google and #Facebook. Major news. https://www.inc.com/...

@alokepillai @sriramk With IDFA blocked, ads just become CPM with no attribution — zero attribution for users who do not *opt in*. Prices are going to go way up for bad traffic. It risks killing the app install/UA market as it exists today in terms of scale and effectiveness.
