I refuse to use “whitelist"/"blacklist" or “master"/"slave" terminology for computers. Join me. Words matter.

Another @GitHub wishlist item, after dropping ICE and renaming the default branch... Make the old default branch name redirect to a new one if it's changed and the old default branch is deleted, for all URLs everywhere (similar to how repo rename redirects work). https://twitter.…

Greenlist/Redlist and boss/worker - picking neutral terms in CS/IT isn't Orwellian, it's respectful Of course, if some folks disagree, just start using major Confederate defeats for any... lossy... function 😈 https://twitter.com/...

This demonstrates how racial bias permeates our society. From now on these words are not in my vocabulary. I will use greenlist/redlist and leader/minion to describe these concepts and you should too. https://twitter.com/...

I couldn't understand the “master/slave” tech terminology when my grandpa taught it to me when I was a kid, and I don't understand it now. It's long since time we ditched it. https://twitter.com/...

“allow-list"/"deny-list" and “leader"/"follower" are great alternatives. They're not blatantly offensive AND they are clearer metaphors. Since when does a “master” database getting replaced by their “slave” make sense anyway? https://twitter.com/...

Tech also had male and female in connectors... https://twitter.com/...

Dropping “master/slave” relationship terminology in tech contexts. This has been discussed before (Python in 2018, for example), but it's back: https://www.cnet.com/...
