New: U.S. plans to accuse China of hacking vaccine data this week, as the cyber landscape becomes a free-for-all for for-profit cyber criminals and nation states looking to glean any intel they can about a global pandemic whose response is anything but. https://www.nytimes.com/..…

They lied about the virus, covered it up as it proliferated, pressed their stooges at WHO to withhold the truth about transmission, distributed/sold defective PPE & tests, and now they're returning to their MO (theft) to steal others' research on a vaccine. Sounds about right. ht…

I keep thinking about this. On the one hand, there is no reason to trust our government anymore. On the other, if it's indeed true, given the global nature of this crisis, why is anyone keeping their research secret and not working in a global consortium? https://twitter.com/...

@Techmeme Devils advocate, but... Wouldn't China stealing this data to more quickly develop a vaccine be good for humanity as a whole? Hell, why isn't this vaccine data public? Who cares how we get there, and who gets there first, as long as we get there...

A draft of the forthcoming public warning says China is seeking “valuable intellectual property and public health data through illicit means related to vaccines, treatments and testing.” https://www.nytimes.com/...

Hacking during COVID19- suspects are China, Russia and Iran, others ‘Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, called the attacks “particularly venal” given that they were targeting international and national organisations responding to the COVID-19 crisis.’ https://news.sky.com/...

What's remarkable here is public attribution of cyberattacks usually conveys a moral high ground. ("China's doing this, but we would NEVER.") But the US IC is actively searching for evidence the virus leaked from a Wuhan lab. They even announced it. https://www.nytimes.com/...

Exclusive - Hackers linked to Iran have targeted staff at Gilead Sciences in recent weeks, the U.S. pharma giant whose antiviral drug remdesivir is the only treatment so far proven to help patients infected with COVID-19 https://www.reuters.com/...
