The craziest thing about PS5 is the speed of the SSD. 5.5 GB/s is just part of the story - there is a lot of custom silicon in there to ensure that the system isn't bottlenecked in other areas. It's *REALLY* fast on paper - a lot faster than Xbox Series X even.

PlayStation 5: the full spec and more detail on the tech that delivers Sony's vision for the future of gaming. We got an advance preview of Mark Cerny's presentation and looked more closely at the technology. https://www.eurogamer.net/...

Beyond that, I was surprised that it allows for off the shelf NVMe drives...but only if they are certified. There are no drives available today that are fast enough for PS5 so do not buy one in preparation.

People keep assuming the 825GB SSD is usable space on a 1TB drive. That's not the case. It's actually a 825GB drive. Sony built it that way for cost and performance. https://www.eurogamer.net/... https://twitter.com/...

PS5 vs. Xbox Series X comparison. Sony has prioritized SSD speeds and variable CPU / GPU speeds. Microsoft has gone for raw GPU speed. Next-gen console gaming is a complicated battle. Details here: https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

if you're disappointed with the PlayStation 5's GPU at 10.28 teraflops then you could always go for Google Stadia. Google uses 10.7 teraflops GPUs. Spoiler: it's the CPU and SSD gains that matter next gen

I find it hard to get excited for the PS5 and Series X when literally all Sony and Microsoft are showing us is how they can play PS4 and Xbox One games faster.

Do you know SSDs are faster than hard drives? Sony thinks you do not.

#PS5 SSD is 825GB and can load 5.5GB in a second (100 times faster I/O than PS4; XSX is 1TB and loads 2.4GB raw) Storage can be expanded with an external HDD for PS4 titles; PS5 titles require certified SSDs https://twitter.com/...
