By not providing Siri users with clear control over how their data is used, Apple is at odds with the privacy doctrine that it preaches on billboards

I pooh-poohed this story at first, mostly on the grounds that I thought we knew about this, and that the recordings were only saved from users who had consented to it. Tweets: @ia , @carnage4life , @funnymonkey , @scramblesuited , and @panzer Tweets: @ia : Gruber: “I don't think it's debatable whether users of any voice assistant should have their recordings listened to or even reviewed (in text form) by human employees without their express consent.” https://daringfireball.net/... Dare Obasanjo / @carnage4life : Apple often uses the line “privacy is a human right” when positioning the iPhone & Safari's cookie blocking policies against Google. This is a form of strategy credit since they don't make money on ads. However in other places they are actually behind. https://daringfireball.net/... Bill Fitzgerald / @funnymonkey : Repeat this for every other company that has been listening to voice assistants without consent. https://daringfireball.net/... Robert Arctor / @scramblesuited : @Techmeme @gruber This is a great point, and escpeically with the conversations of what Alexa is listening to, a nesesscary change if they are going to keep taking the public line they have. Matthew Panzarino / @panzer : Taking public ownership of privacy as a tentpole tenet means that you also have to push to the pole position on data handling. Siri's users are not clearly provided with a choice about how their data is used. https://daringfireball.net/... https://twitter.com/...
