This preview extends a line that started with Microsoft's Azure-hosted combined CRM and ERP service in 2016 and continued when HoloLens apps Remote Assist and Layout hit general availability on Dynamics 365 in late 2018. What changes now is distribution: the AI and mixed-reality services are being opened up beyond the headset to iOS and Android, so the front-line worker no longer needs a HoloLens to be on the receiving end of remote assistance or a customized bot.

That matters because it turns Dynamics 365's AI features from a hardware-locked niche into something deployable across the installed base of phones and tablets enterprises already own — the same suite that later gained OpenAI-powered Copilot capabilities and, by 2025, dedicated sales agents wired into the business apps.

  • Field technicians and customer-service teams can run Dynamics 365 remote assistance and custom bots on iOS and Android devices they already carry, cutting HoloLens hardware out of the deployment equation for most users.

Third-order effects
