Today's relaunch delivers on that promise: the reverse-chronological view returns as a first-class option for all users, starting on iOS and rolling out to other platforms over the following weeks.

It matters because the ranked timeline had become Twitter's default distribution mechanism — the thing that decided which tweets got seen. Handing every user a one-tap escape hatch puts that mechanism up for re-election, and the coverage shows how the fight plays out long-term: by January 2019 the option reaches Android, and by 2023 Twitter flips the script entirely, making the algorithmic feed the unchangeable default.
