Living with a low-end Android phone running “lite” apps is a big compromise from a usability standpoint but it is still an upgrade from using a feature phone

I lived with a best-selling Indian phone for 10 days.  Nothing went smoothly.  —  Reporting From New Delhi Tweets: @pranavdixit , @pranavdixit , @buzzfeednews , and @akm1410 Tweets: @pranavdixit : Pretty much the only things that worked: Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp. I turned into a consumption zombie and I fear the Next Billion are too. http://www.buzzfeed.com/... @pranavdixit : I used a $60 smartphone instead of an iPhone like one of Big Tech's “Next Billion” users in emerging markets. Despite all the hype about lightweight apps, it was awful. I wrote about it here. http://www.buzzfeed.com/... @buzzfeednews : For 10 days, @PranavDixit ditched his iPhone 8 for a budget phone that would be broadly representative of the devices India's 350 million smartphone owners use. http://www.buzzfeed.com/... Ashish K. Mishra / @akm1410 : This is an interesting piece from @PranavDixit. A walk in others shoe experiment. IMHO, it suffers from wild comparisons of lifestyle choices. Where the walk ends up superficial. Minus that, looks like the $80 phone can get consumption going. https://www.buzzfeed.com/...
