The guy who managed to break YouTube's Trending list with a Parkland “crisis actor” video wasn't an Infowars host or a scheming politics vlogger. He was just a 51-year-old guy named Mike who reuploaded a video he saw in a conspiracy forum thread http://www.nytimes.com/...?amp=1

Today, a Parkland conspiracy video made it to the top of YouTube's Trending section—only the most recent reminder of the fundamentally flawed algorithms that decide what gets highlighted across social platforms http://bit.ly/2HBj3LZ

‘how to detect and fight fake news’ has been a central question for @facebook and here we are. This is why the ‘not the arbiters of truth’ line is going to be increasingly untenable. FB will end up with an internal well-resourced ‘newsroom’ that makes calls on stories like this h…

Seems like Facebook just took David Hogg out of the trending section instead of removing a lot of the hoaxes related to him http://www.businessinsider.com/ ... pic.twitter.com/k872ELhV4U

one solution to the problem of conspiracy theories “trending” on social media is to end “trending” as a sorting mechanism. it's essentially useless... except for people who want to force their obsessions into everyone else's feeds http://nymag.com/...

YouTube statement on why that David Hogg conspiracy video made it to the top of the trending list. Still no explanation why searches for “David Hogg” promotes related conspiracy videos http://www.businessinsider.com/ ... http://twitter.com/...

im poking wojcicki because as much as youtube/google tried to distance itself from Facebook and Twitter during the congressional hearings last year it is in the exact same fucked up boat and needs to get its house in order as well

Does youtube have a team of people overseeing trending related to breaking news situations? Who can just making sure the trending algorithm doesn't pick up pure conspiracy?

The user behind the video has only created 10 videos in four years, three of which are about Stoneman Douglas and one of which is titled “BREAKING Disclosure! First Govt NASA Close up UFO Video! They ARE HERE!!!” His most recent upload has been removed, but not the video above. p…

It's also promoting conspiracy theory videos when you search “David Hogg” YouTube said last year it would favor “trusted” sources in search. It's not working. https://twitter.com/...
