The Warner / Suno settlement is a very good day for musicians, and for people everywhere fighting against exploitative AI. More details on the agreement are needed, but the bottom line is this: Suno is shifting to models trained on music they've licensed, and shutting down their …

I'm particularly concerned with this message from the press release, which states that current models will “deprecate” when new models arrive. Sure, but does this mean we'll only have licensed models from 2026? [image]

@MikeyShulman I think we need a clear understanding of what rights we'll have (if any) with the new 2026 models after the current models are “deprecated” as per the press release: https://www.prnewswire.com/...

Not enough details about this settlement to be able to really evaluate it. Opt-in only is good, and changes to the model are important. But it's no secret that plenty of musicians would prefer to see Suno sued into oblivion.

Historic deal for both music and AI industries. Pie should meaningfully grow for everyone — especially artists and creators.

I want to address Mat's argument here, because it's an argument among AI types that is so common and yet so misleading. Mat argues that Suno shouldn't be required to license the music they train on, because an equal split of their $250M investment would assign $12.50 to each

Also apparently in the pitch deck: - Users are mostly male, age 25-34 - Suno plans to be a $500 billion company - 25% of subscribers remain after 30 days - The company's vision hinges on “reducing the number of users who leave the service after joining” according to Billboard

If you have 100 vinyl LPs in your record collection or a similar number of CDs - you as an individual will have spent as much in real terms on music as Suno - which has scrapped almost every piece of human created music on the internet

Billboard got access to Suno's investment pitch deck. It revealed that Suno has spent $32 million on compute, and $2,000 on training data. Let that sink in. https://www.billboard.com/... [image]
