Yann LeCun leaving $META is more bearish than rising capex, depreciation, whatever. He's one of the Godfathers of modern AI. He is the reason why $META has one of the most developed world models today, as he pioneered them while everybody focused on LLMs. Huge loss for $META

Huge: Yann LeCun is about to leave Meta! He plans to launch his own start-up! That was to be expected. Resources were increasingly taken away from him, and important positions were reassigned. At the same time, Lecun is also largely responsible for Meta's significant losses in [i…

Reminder that Yann LeCun did not actually work on Llama. He is known for criticizing LLMs and for proposing his own architecture, JEPA instead. So you cannot blame LeCun for Llama's failures.

What's interesting about this one job move is that LeCun was essentially demoted and pushed out of Meta because he refused to drink the Kool-Aid: He thinks AI is useful, but he does not think AI is Jesus. The purge of skeptics is always a bad sign for the future of an industry.

Yes, Yann LeCun is well known for never accepting a boss younger than himself. His previous bosses include... Mark Zuckerberg.

Meta's AI org is in disarray. First Soumitra Chintala, the inventor of PyTorch leaves. Now Yann LeCun, their AI head leaves. They have $600B in compute commits until 2028, but I guess it's up to Alex Wang and Nat Friedman to deliver.

Historic fumble by Meta Fairly certain the idiotic re-orgs that took power away from research (i.e. LeCun) accelerated the decision to leave

Yann LeCun is leaving Meta lol. Of course. He ended up in a position where he has to report to a kid much younger than him — how could his pride not be hurt? If I were him, I'd leave Meta too. [image]
