Apple postpones the release of Apple TV+ show The Savant this Friday; its trailer faced backlash for allegedly misrepresenting right-wing ideologies

This is called voluntary censorship.  We see it all the time here in the BBC.  —  www.vulture.com/article/appl... Luke O'Neil / @lukeoneil47 : Apple canceling this show is the first bit of marketing they've ever done for one of their shows. deadline.com/2025/09/the-... @darthbluesky : she kept finding trump officials?  [embedded post] Sam Adams / @samadams : maybe while they're growing a spine Apple can ponder the wisdom of adding a show called The Savant to a service that already has a TV show called Servant Sam Adams / @samadams : Apple has decided a show about taking down white nationalists is too sensitive to air in the wake of Charlie Kirk's murder Josh Spiegel / @mousterpiece : “Now is simply not the time to say that white supremacists might be bad!  And please don't ask us when the time will arrive.”  [embedded post] @cinephiliabeyond.org : We've reached a point where Apple TV+ is now self-censoring in fear of Fuckface Von Clownstick.  What cowardice.  This should be a scandal even bigger than Disney canceling Jimmy Kimmel.  —  https://www.vulture.com/article/apple- pulls-the-savant-from-release- schedule.html Peter Sterne / @petersterne.com : Didn't many extremism researchers also think this series was sensationalist and problematic? [embedded post] @shoq : The right always exaggerated cancel culture on the left, but it's pretty clear they were always projecting their wish to do the same.  Sadder is that many on the Left had warned that the Right would eventually be better at it.  And now they are.  —  bsky.app/profile/techmeme.com...  [embedded post] @tvmojoe : Apple is pushing back Friday's debut of THE SAVANT until who-knows-when.  Given they were still promoting the premiere as of last Thursday, seems likely this was the company being super cautious and trying to avoid a right-wing backlash www.vulture.com/article/appl... @mmwarden : Was looking forward to THE SAVANT.  I don't want to cancel Apple+ but . . . Threads: Josh Billinson / @jbillinson : I think a lot about how the first thing Apple ever canceled was a show in production about boomers who go on a shooting spree against “self-absorbed millennials,” and they apparently only noticed that pitch didn't fit their “aspirational programming” model after they bought it??? Apple TV? More like Apple Bend the Knee. Thank you, thank you.

Not saying I agree with Apple's decision, but I certainly understand it. Respectfully disagree with this piece, as I don't think Apple is cowering to Trump, and the idea that Trump cares about THE SAVANT is kinda funny. Apple is just reading the room & doing what's best for Apple

As someone who has seen the entirety of The Savant, I can assure it is not incendiary enough to be pulled because of the political climate. It feels like an attention grabbing decision.

When art becomes too close to the truth in trump's America, art suffers.  —  This is called voluntary censorship.  We see it all the time here in the BBC.  —  www.vulture.com/article/appl...

maybe while they're growing a spine Apple can ponder the wisdom of adding a show called The Savant to a service that already has a TV show called Servant

Apple has decided a show about taking down white nationalists is too sensitive to air in the wake of Charlie Kirk's murder
