Rex-Osprey launches the first spot dogecoin and XRP ETFs in the US, after the SEC approved the Generic Listing Standards, paving the way for speedier listings

Rex Osprey launched the first spot XRP and doge ETFs today, while Grayscale will soon launch its just-approved multi-asset fund.  —  4h

Sherwood News Yaël Bizouati-Kennedy

Context & Ripple Effects

US crypto ETFs moved from the first bitcoin futures ETF approvals to spot bitcoin funds in 2024, followed by spot ether ETFs beginning trading. Rex-Osprey’s launches extend that progression to XRP and Dogecoin.

The significance is not only the two products: the SEC’s Generic Listing Standards shift part of the process toward a repeatable listing framework, while Grayscale’s approved multi-asset fund adds another route for packaged crypto exposure.

First-order effects

  • Rex-Osprey becomes the first US issuer to offer spot XRP and Dogecoin ETFs, giving investors ETF-form access to those assets.
  • The Generic Listing Standards can shorten the path from approval to listing for qualifying crypto ETF products; Grayscale is positioned to bring its approved multi-asset fund to market.

Second-order effects

  • Other ETF issuers now have a clearer incentive to prepare comparable single-asset or multi-asset crypto products, competing on fees, liquidity, distribution, and asset selection rather than solely on securing a bespoke approval.
  • The growing menu of spot crypto wrappers could shift investor attention and fund flows among bitcoin, ether, XRP, Dogecoin, and diversified products; the earlier spot bitcoin ETF approvals established the category’s core precedent.

Third-order effects

  • If generic standards are applied consistently, crypto ETF issuance could become more standardized and less dependent on asset-by-asset regulatory milestones, lowering the procedural advantage held by early issuers.
  • That would make the SEC’s listing framework, rather than any one token launch, a central gatekeeper for which crypto assets become accessible through mainstream US fund channels.

The trend: US crypto investing is moving from exceptional, asset-specific ETF approvals toward a broader, rules-based product shelf, though the pace and scope will depend on how the listing standards are applied.

My over/under got destroyed in the first hour of trading as $DOJE already posting nearly $6m in volume. That's shockingly solid.. Most ETFs trade under $1m on Day One. [image]

WOW. The SEC has approved Generic Listing Standards for “Commodity Based Trust Shares” aka includes crypto ETPs. This is the crypto ETP framework we've been waiting for. Get ready for a wave of spot crypto ETP launches in coming weeks and months. [image]

BOOM: SEC has approved the generic listings standards that will clear way for spot crypto ETFs to launch (without going through all this bs every time) under '33 Act so long as they have futures on Coinbase, which currently incl about 12-15 coins. [image]

SEMI-SHOCK: Rex XRP ETF $XRPP is already at $24m in volume. That is way more than I would have thought. For context it's 5x more than any of the XRP futures ETFs did on Day One and it's only been 90min. [image]

This is such a good point. The last time they implemented a generic listings standards for ETF, launches tripled. Good chance we see north of 100 crypto ETFs launched in the next 12mo.

The Grayscale CoinDesk Crypto 5 ETF is the the new name of $GDLC (a spot crypto basket), which is scheduled to begin trading tomorrow. Things are moving fast. [image]

Looks like @grayscale's $GDLC will be uplisting to NYSE and converting into an ETF tomorrow. It will also be changing its name to track a @CoinDesk index [image]

Here's a list of all the coins that have futures on Coinbase = eligible for spot ETF-ization [image]

Hard to overstate how big a deal this is for the crypto ETF landscape and how fast we're accelerating the distribution of crypto. “Bull markets are predicated on an ever-expanding universe of buyers.” — PTJ

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Yesterday the big news was the approval of crypto ETP Generic listing standards (yes this was massive) but we also saw the approval of @Grayscale's $GDLC ETF conversion. The ‘stay order’ was lifted and it will now convert into an ETF [image]
  • @kkirkbos Katherine Kirkpatrick Bos on x
The SEC's generic listing standards approval = any asset with a futures contract trading on a reg. exchange for 6 months will be auto approved as a spot ETF. This will make it harder for Digital Asset Treasury companies w/ those assets, bc it will be easier to get ETF exposure.
