At the White House dinner, Zuckerberg said Meta plans to spend “something like at least $600B” through 2028 on data centers and other infrastructure in the US

Context & Ripple Effects
Meta had already outlined $60B–$65B of 2025 capex and a GPU expansion, making this a sharp escalation from an annual buildout plan to a multiyear U.S. infrastructure commitment.
The commitment matters because Meta’s AI strategy is becoming inseparable from its ability to finance, build, and operate large-scale compute—not simply hire researchers, despite its aggressive recruiting of AI talent.
First-order effects
Meta sets a far larger planning envelope for U.S. data centers and related infrastructure, increasing its near-term exposure to construction, equipment, power, and financing execution.
The scale reinforces Meta’s shift from discrete annual capex guidance toward a dedicated compute-building program, later formalized as Meta Compute.
Second-order effects
A commitment of this size strengthens demand visibility for the data-center supply chain and increases pressure on rival AI platforms to secure comparable compute capacity and project financing.
Meta’s use of debt, SPVs, and project financing for AI facilities means more of the buildout can be structured outside conventional corporate capex, while making financing terms and project delivery more consequential.
Third-order effects
If peers sustain similar commitments, frontier AI capacity will concentrate further among companies able to combine large cash flows with access to infrastructure finance.
AI competition may increasingly be decided by power availability, construction execution, and balance-sheet design alongside model and product quality; that also raises the risk that delayed facilities or weaker AI returns leave oversized fixed commitments.
The trend: This is one data point in AI’s transition from a model-development race into a capital-intensive contest to control compute infrastructure and its financing.
Mark Zuckerberg is an embodiment of the collapse of American politics, society and civilization. He loves Rome and will be remembered among the ranks of Nero who at least had more confidence.

Its all a big charade. Inventing big numbers just for the social posts. Gross.

I laughed at this part. Zuckerberg clearly just made the $600B number up. I assume he had that number in his head because that's what Apple said it would invest in the U.S. Zuckerberg also didn't clarify “spend” vs. “invest.” Pretty tough to map out how Meta will “spend” $600B

If you look back at the history of these announcements from Trump 1 - they're complete nonsense. Throw out some astronomically high figure and no one ever checks twice.

@charliekirk11 So what? He's still a criminal. Are we just going to forgive Zuckerberg for all of the harm he caused our country and the entire world because he's claiming he's going to invest $600 billion? Maybe I should be a billionaire too so I can just buy my way out of priso…

“I wasn't sure what number you wanted to go with...?” You mean to say these $ amounts are arbitrary and not reliable?? I'm shocked. (I'd post this on Facebook but I doubt anyone would read it)

1.) He said “I don't know.” 2.) The “hot mic” was him admitting he was not prepared to offer a number, not that he made the number up.

It's all theatre. Hot mic seems to show Zuckerberg just making up big numbers to please POTUS. [video]

Trillions of dollars being invested scaling the current paradigm. And yet, few even dare think of investing in the next one. People are mispricing risk from hardware overhang. We don't want to pop the bubble, but we accidentally might. You have been warned.
