Grammarly acquires email startup Superhuman as part of a push to diversify and build an AI productivity suite; Superhuman was valued at $825M in August 2021
Grammarly has acquired email efficiency tool Superhuman as part of the company's push to build an artificial intelligence-powered productivity suite …
Superhuman entered the deal after a 2021 funding round at an $825M valuation, underscoring that Grammarly is acquiring an established premium email brand rather than merely adding a feature.
First-order effects
Grammarly takes control of Superhuman’s email product and brand, adding email workflow to its AI-powered productivity-suite push.
Superhuman’s customers and team now sit within Grammarly’s product strategy, while Grammarly gains a direct surface for applying its writing and AI capabilities.
Second-order effects
The deal gives Grammarly a stronger basis to package writing assistance and email productivity together, building on its existing business email-generation tools.
Email-product and workplace-AI rivals face greater pressure to differentiate on workflow depth or to match a broader bundled offering rather than compete on a single feature.
Third-order effects
If such integrations continue, AI productivity vendors may increasingly compete for ownership of the work surface—email, documents, and coordination—where assistants can act, not just generate text.
The acquisition points toward further AI workspace consolidation, though the eventual value will depend on whether users adopt a combined workflow rather than separate specialized tools.
The trend: This is one data point in the shift from standalone AI assistants toward consolidated, workflow-native productivity suites.
WOW - this is an interesting deal. I love Superhuman but it's very much a luxury email app. Some interesting AI features although its core market differentiation is really the overall UX. [embedded post]
I didn't see this coming but it makes sense. I wonder how these deals are structured. Grammarly last raised in 2021 at $13B, Superhuman raised at $825M in 2021. Kudos to Grammarly, I counted them out in the world of AI, figured an AI browser would render them obsolete. [image]
I would guessed superhuman had way more than $35m of revenue Superhuman has been acquired by grammarly which just raised $1B Superhuman was valued at $835m in 2021 [image]
And I never went back. Congrats @rahulvohra and early @Superhuman investors including @btrenchard @davidu @ajayvashee on the @Grammarly acquisition 🎉 Please don't ruin it! [image]
Grammarly's CEO @shishirmehrotra is one of tech's best system thinkers. No one does customer empathy like Superhuman CEO @rahulvohra. This team up is going to create some delightful products [image]
Notion Mail guys joined Cursor, Superhuman joins Grammarly. Definitely getting harder to build standalone best in class products because its so easy to code them yourself and as a result people dont find value in these products anymore (I love Superhuman) [image]
