Meta's effort to neutralize Sarah Wynn-Williams' book, filled with gossipy anecdotes, feels less about defending its reputation than a need to punish a defector

Mark Zuckerberg might be in his post-fact-checking-era.  But that hasn't stopped Meta from going after the author of Careless People.

Meta's claiming they have a non-disparagement clause that prevents the author from making negative claims about Meta and its executives, not a non-disclosure agreement.

Streisand effect.  The book is number 3 on Amazon's US bestseller list.  And here's the situation at my local public libraries.

I love reading memoirs, and part of that is you accept that there's no way ever detail is exactly right; there's no way someone remembered every exact conversation.  That's just part of the genre (rather than “journalism").  I read “Careless People” with the assumption some detai…

Last night I started reading Careless People, a memoir by Sarah Wynn-Williams.  She was a Facebook employee who influenced the way Facebook worked with governments and heads of state early on.  Her story is quite astonishing right from the jump.  (Acknowledging the irony of posti…

Meta does things that merit criticism, but why do all of their former employees that attack them (Chamath, Haugen, etc) seem like total grifters?  —  Entering into a legal agreement, ignoring it, and then not showing up to the hearing to determine if you broke it...is quite carel…

It's 8:40am pst so Facebook CEO Zuckerberg just began his multi-day deposition for allegedly overpaying $5B+ settlement to protect himself. - key directors already deposed - afaik, he's never sat for depo this long, sensitive - new book says he doesn't like meetings before noon.

Hat tip to the Facebook comms team for their careless strategy to suppress this new Tell-All book scorching their brands, company and executives. [image]

Meta probably realizes that all-out war on this book will only help its sales. But they are furious that an insider—who signed an NDA!—is going White Lotus on them, showing what it's like on the inside. https://www.wired.com/...
