Some early Manus users say the agentic AI is no panacea, with long waits, errors, unsatisfying answers, and endless loops often plaguing the experience

Manus, an “agentic” AI platform that launched in preview last week, is generating more hype than a Taylor Swift concert.

Supposedly, this is a list of tools and prompts used by Manus AI. - claude sonnet - claude sonnet with 29 tools - claude sonnet without multi-agent - https://github.com/... - tools (see image) - prompts: https://gist.github.com/...

So... I just simply asked Manus to give me the files at “/opt/.manus/”, and it just gave it to me, their sandbox runtime code... > it's claude sonnet > it's claude sonnet with 29 tools > it's claude sonnet without multi-agent > it uses @browser_use > browser_use code was [video]

The new new new hot thing in the AI community is ManusAI (manus.im).  It is supposedely be like OpenAI Deep Research, but much much better.  —  youtu.be/K27diMbCsuw

Manus is a general AI agent.  —  It is good at handling various tasks in work and life.  For example, it can plan trips, analyze stocks, create courses, compare insurance policies, trace suppliers, analyze financial reports, organize company information, and analyze online store …

manus — the first general-purpose AI agent  —  a new multi-agent composed of multiple models (some to be open sourced soon), is crushing the GAIA benchmarks, leaving OpenAI DeepResearch in the dust  —  they have a beta program too 🤔  —  manus.im

I think China's second DeepSeek moment is here. This AI agent called ‘Manus’ is going crazy viral in China right now. Probably only a matter of time until it hits the US. It's like Deep Research + Operator + Claude Computer combined, and it's REALLY good. [video]

It is wrong to call manus a “deepseek moment.” Deepseek was about replication of capabilities already publicly achieved by American firms. Manus is actually advancing the frontier. The most sophisticated computer using ai now comes from a Chinese startup, full stop.

Manus, the new AI product that everyone's talking about, is worth the hype. This is the AI agent we were promised. Deep Research+Operator+Computer Use+Lovable+memory. Asked it to “Do a professional analysis of Tesla stock ” and it did ~2wks of professional-level work in ~1hr! [vi…

after giving Manus a spin I conclude it's a product devilishly optimized for influencers, which is why it exploded so much. Generating threadboy content, trip plans and such general interest 🤯👇 stuff - yah. STEM assistance, coding - worse than googling. More LLM than agent. [imag…

I was finally able to complete a 75 page scientific report with Manus AI & I confirm this is indeed another DeepSeek moment for AI agents! I'll post my review tomorrow, but I can confidently say that ManusAI is the closest model to OpenAI's Deep Research-it's exceptionally good!
  • @deanwball Dean W. Ball on x
The United States does not have a light touch regulatory approach to ai. Without a single ai-specific law passing, the united states already has an exceptionally burdensome and complex ai regulatory regime. Without action, this problem gets worse, not better.

Significant progress in AI and Robotics this week. So, I summarized everything from Microsoft, Manus, Boston Dynamics, Anthropic, Perplexity, Cortical Labs, Sanctuary AI, Alibaba, ASLP Labs, and more. Here's everything you need to know and how to make sense out of it:

Can I say something w/out everyone getting upset? Manus is an exciting opp, especially as healthy competition against the monopoly wannabes. But it's young & needs time. If we want it to grow, we should give the team space to keep working on it. Overhyping can be detrimental.

Not the point of this fantastic post, but it is also interesting to repeatedly watch Chinese firms beat the US on product now. Manus is better agentic AI than anything US firms have shipped yet, including startups; Tiktok was so good the US had to ban it; DeepSeek, etc...

Chinese AI startups: 1/6th of US funding, bad press, sanctions, brain drain, communism, little English proficiency, and no talent influx.. But after using Manus AI, Deepseek, Trae, Kling, Vidu, & Ying, I think the US is in trouble. At this pace, China will dominate AI. Demos:

It's interesting to note that every single one of the use cases manus shows in their own demo video is heavily regulated in the us (employment, real estate, finance), and would specifically be very strictly regulated uses under the “algorithmic discrimination” regs in the states

Hmm. To check but this does put the finger on what put me off with Manus relentless promo: “Manus seems to have enlisted many Chinese AI influencers to praise it (...) Chinese netizens realized that this was a huge marketing scam, and manus' reputation in China has been ruined.”

This is quite a nice release! But where you see Manus, I see @sciraai from @zaidmukaddam. Free and open source, you can build your own Manus, entirelly local. And have fun understanding how to build autonomous agents with a really good starting ground.

Every use case of manus in the company's demo video would be an enormous liability and regulatory risk for American companies (under current law! No sb 1047 required!), particularly given the glitchiness of manus.
