A caveat: we only have capex for Microsoft's fiscal 2025, which ends in June.  Microsoft has not given a capex estimate for calendar 2025.  So comparisons to Meta, Amazon, etc aren't perfect.  [embedded post]

$AMZN says its Q4 capex ($26.3B) is “reasonably representative” of its expected 2025 capex run-rate, with the “vast majority” of the spend going towards AWS. Implies 2025 capex of ~$105B (for comparison, 2024 capex was around $77.7B).

Looking at capex to gross profit of the big 4, capital intensity in 2025 is up ~12 points from the average of 2017-2022, i.e. pre GenAI era. MSFT is clearly up the most, more than doubling, while Amazon is actually down. [image]

DeepSeek experts said Big Tech would now cut capex. Amazon just raised 2025 capex to $105 billion versus $84 billion estimate.

Amazon $AMZN guided for Q1 revenue of $151.0 to $155.5 billion (5-9% growth), well below the estimate for $158.3 billion (10.5% growth) due to FX impacts and comp against Leap Year sales.
