1) DeepSeek r1 is real with important nuances. Most important is the fact that r1 is so much cheaper and more efficient to inference than o1, not from the $6m training figure. r1 costs 93% less to *use* than o1 per each API, can be run locally on a high end work station and

Today's “DeepSeek selloff” in the stock market — attributed to DeepSeek V3/R1 disrupting the tech ecosystem — is another sign that the application layer is a great place to be. The foundation model layer being hyper-competitive is great for people building applications.

AI Agents have unlimited attention span and you can run them in parallel. Here's an example of using Operator to watch a live video feed and noting every time it sees a black vehicle in the stream. The generalizability means you can bring automation to anything. [video]

Of course that's your contention. You just heard about DeepSeek two days ago. Just got done watching some 40-minute deep dive—Deirdre Bosa, probably. You're going to be talking about how this complicates things for the hyperscalers and how NVIDIA stock traded down 15%. [image]

This didn't happen because DeepSeek attacked Nvidia. It happened because you allowed billionaires to convince you AI hype was real and only achievable through endless scaling of processor farms that only Nvidia could provide. Money walked as soon as the lie was exposed [image]

This is a very informative post that has helped me better understand DeepSeek The tl;dr is that the breakthrough was only possible because DeepSeek was able to train itself against the models of US based tech cos, it almost certainly used more advanced NVIDIA Chips by evading US

So this is like 2T in loss market cap for a $6M training run (ignoring cost of research, ablations, distilled data from GPT, capex for their various clusters, etc). Imagine if China invests $300m in a training run. It would reduce the world's GDP to $0.
