Nintendo teases the Switch 2, featuring a new kickstand design and backward compatibility for physical and digital games, with more details on April 2, 2025
The console looks a lot like the original, but it's bigger. In the video, the Joy-Con controllers are black with colored accents, and they attach to the console magnetically.

- mini rant over but i just can't believe so many people (afaict) _like_ the design. this is so not nintendo. this is them trying to be steam or smth. — 6/6 @j4ck@mstdn.social · Jack
- I don't have strong feelings for the Switch 2 ether way, but I'm not saying to be negative. I'm actually okay with it essentially being the same thing, especially if they fix the Joy-Con drift, that's all I really need. — Here are my hopes for the future: — One is I would like to see a large variety of *new* games. … @EatingHawaiianP1zza@meow.social
- My wild ass speculation is that the Switch 2 is dropping touch screen support, which would explain why some games are no longer compatible despite the overall library carrying forward. — I am totally making this up, my uncle does NOT work for Nintendo. … @kitoconnell@kolektiva.social · Mixter Kit O'Connell
- I'm really loving the design of the Nintendo Switch 2. Personally, I've always liked the aesthetic of the Nintendo Switch, so I'm not mad at all about the decision to stick with a similar look. — If anything, I love that it's larger than before, and I'm crossing my fingers for some significant internal spec upgrades 🤞🏽 … @Aday@mas.to · Aday
- At least we have to give Nintendo credit for launching a new technology product in 2025 and not mentioning AI. — #Nintendo @troberts@theblower.au · Tom Roberts
- Pretty weird trailer for the Switch 2 honestly. — So it's a hardware update, but not anything truly radical. It's still the Switch. — The most obvious thing missing is a big launch title. It shows off a Mario Kart game which definitely looks like Mario Kart game.... And that's it. … @troberts@theblower.au · Tom Roberts
- Okay so the #NintendoSwitch2 announcement just dropped and... it's like the thing I have, but bigger and less colorful?? — I'm not sure bigger is really the target for something I want to carry around when I'm out and about, and I'm not falling over myself to buy new controllers and stuff without a reason. … @LaurenZannah@tech.lgbt
- They actually called it Switch 2. Nintendo has never done this with hardware. Always refused to just slap a number after a name. — Also, that mouse mode thing seems to be pretty much confirmed. Which is very interesting for 4X games on the system, that's for sure. Maybe even lightgun games? … @weebdeluxe@urusai.social
- This post isn't my impression of the console - I was already planning on buying three because the Herters love video games and hate sharing. … Blair Herter

I'm not even a gamer but I deeply appreciate the design thinking that went into this — Nintendo's true strength is that their goal is “how to help people have fun (and maybe even connect while doing so)” vs the weird focus on frame rates and clock speeds in the rest of the indu…

The Switch 2 will be the first new console Nintendo has ever released that isn't notably different from it's predecessor in how you use it to play games. Same controller, same form factor, same gimmick. — Worried this signals a shift to stagnation and chasing graphical fidelit…

Don't care about the re-designed joycons, I use the Nintendo Pro Controller. Don't care about the bigger screen, I always play on TV. — Do care about the internals and the games. So I guess I have to wait to hear more about that. 😐 — #Switch2

The #Nintendo #Switch 1 is fully compatible with wired USB-C headphones but the additional top mounted port on #NintendoSwitch2 would seem to make using them a lot more convenient. In handheld mode today I still opt for 3.5mm because it's less awkwardly positioned.

My Nintendo hot take is that I never take the thing out of its dock and it would be nice if they sold a cheaper version with no built in screen.

I only really use my Switch for exclusives but damn the Switch 2 looks real nice just as a physical thing. Less fiddly joycons with hall effect sticks, nicer screen (I had the OG not the OLED) and hopefully a new Mario - lets face it I'll be getting one https://www.nintendo.com/…

Would be a smart way to counter the PC gaming handheld segment by attracting traditional PC games to the platform + tapping into the traditional PC gamer audience that wants a secondary device with a broad range of games. IF this feature is indeed confirmed.

I'm not a gamer or console expert so consider me mostly joking), but selling basically the same machine with a slightly larger screen and different color scheme is taking a page right out of Apple's 2010s book.

Again, not a hardware expert so I'm sure I'm wrong about this, but it ~feels~ like hardware is certainly getting more powerful but it's also getting infinitely more boring Bring back zany hardware tech!!! I don't want a better camera. I want, like, insane Nokia Sidekick designs
