It's the only way forward.  If you don't own any Sonos gear it's hard to explain the arson that occurred last year.  One day your system worked fine, the next it was almost unusable.  All this gear you bought suddenly sabotaged by their shoddy engineering.  [embedded post]

Unprecedented.  The Sonos app update that customers have been complaining about for months has led to the CEO resigning because “they let far too many people down.”  —  He's being replaced by Tom Conrad, founder of Pandora and former head of product for Snap and Quibi.

@Techmeme they had a terrible year from a lost trust perspective and their initial response to the app pushback was oddly defiant.  Seems like something needed to change.

My first real exposure of Sonos was seeing a friend's system a few months ago, and my reaction was ‘OMG this is awful’ and I swapped it out with Airplay.  I hope they can get it together.

FWIW, I've long thought that Sonos had the most compelling opportunity to take a Tomahawk-esque approach to content resolution in their software products (which IMHO could unlock more hardware sales).  Given the renewed push by many for more fragmentation in streaming, I think it…

As a long time Sonos Customer I was disappointed back in 2020 when they decided not to support their older products, but they partially backed down from that poor decision.  And after the latest software controversy their CEO is out.

This gives a whole new meaning to “change rage” which is often dismissed as an inevitable side effect of big redesigns.  Now companies might have to think twice.  This is a good future deterrent for on-a-whim CEO-led full redesigns.

I completely ditched Sonos in my house and moved to Bluesound. Aside from the app being horrendous in Sonos.. SonosNet is devastating to any smart network creating network loops and broadcast storms. Fought it with STP for 8 years and decided move on.

I have two pricey Sonos speakers that are both effectively doorstops even after two hours on @Sonos customer service just because the app can't find the internet any more.

You can go pretty far by simply not fucking up something great. The opposite is also true.

Apple is moving into smart-home stuff, so Sonos would be a good acquisition. Lots of high-end users and easy wins in terms of fixing broken functionality.
