Thereby forcing all adults to hand over ID to social media platforms ... just one of many consequences of this fucked-up policy choice, @AlboMP @AustralianLabor. Prohibition never works. Education works. Such a regressive move. #auspol #FFS

A minimum age for social media of 16 years will make a difference. [image]

Unpopular opinion but social media sites are so egregiously unsafe and tech companies have dragged their feet on child protection for so long - I don't think we can justify letting children onto these sites any more.

This will disproportionately & negatively affect young people who rely on social media for connection to community. Community like LGBTQIA+ youth. Banning social media does not fix its issues. Also 10-15 y/o's are old enough for criminal responsibility but not social media? 🙄

The age of criminal responsibility in Australia: 10 years old (except for ACT which is 14) Age you are deemed to be responsible enough to use social media: 16 years old MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE

@AlboMP @AlboMP the parents make that decision if their child uses social media, not YOU.

Kinda wild that the Albanese government is just straight up ignoring experts when it comes to how we should deal with the issues of social media because he wants to just do what Murdoch tells him to do

So youngsters won't be allowed to access social media. No YouTube allowed! Unless they're already using it. The only way to make this happen is to force a mandatory government ID on everyone over the age of 16 that would allow them to log on to the internet. Bad dumb policy.
