- @Techmeme To anyone wondering, it's a sales ban, not a usage ban. If you already own an iPhone 16 series or purchase one overseas, you can use it in Indonesia (there's the IMEI tax for citizens and long term residents to unlock the use of local SIM cards as it has been since end of 2019 but other than that it's fine). @aulia@mementomori.social

Indonesia wants a 40% domestic content requirement for local iPhone sales, something that is China's current DVA. In past, Indonesia successfully arm twisted chinese for nickel and battery production, and think this will work, which is unlikely. https://x.com/... [image]
