Nvidia reports Q2 revenue up 122% YoY to $30B, above $28.7B est., forecasts Q3 revenue above est., and approves an additional $50B in share buybacks

Nvidia reported earnings after the bell that beat Wall Street expectations for earnings and guidance, and provided stronger-than-expected guidance for the current quarter.

Better-than-expected doesn't cut it for Nvidia. Evidently investors expect this company to blow away expectations. Even with Q3 revenue expectations of $32.5 billion vs the expected $31.9 billion, and $50 billion in planned share buybacks, the shares are down more than 7%. [image…

$NVDA Everything here including even upping the buyback from so much cash has occurred, everything except the stock price reaction which is a bummer to have channel checks forecast the accurate revenue and financial engineering Look at CRWD and CRM are up I think it's long

@TheStalwart Its kind of why convertibles are now more commonly used because they are set against benchmarks or targets. The startups get cash but the investor gets protection and still has a mechanism to sell the startup the thing that it absolutely needs

So Nvidia fixed the GPU mask for Blackwell to improve production yield. The change is now “complete.” Blackwell functionality did not change, Jensen said.

Margins is a key thing to watch for @nvidia but we also have to account for more advanced products will cost a bit more to make as more complex systems/silicon/advanced packaging becomes necessary to keep performance gains.

On the call I'll be listening for more color on the Blackwell ramp, as well as the timing on when Jensen believes they will reach supply-demand equilibrium. As a reminder, three months ago he expected that milestone “well into next year”. While it's likely that he reiterates that

The only problem @nvidia has is a managing expecations problem.

I love that Jensen is just rambling answering questions so he can take as few questions as possibvle from investors.
  • @benbajarin Ben Bajarin on x
No shock on the beat for @Nvidia but did they beat enough! Lol. “Hopper demand remains strong, and the anticipation for Blackwell is incredible,” said Jensen Huang Exactly what we continue to hear from the industry buying/using @Nvidia products.

Quick thoughts on $NVDA's report/call: - On a high level, Nvidia's report/call might be more positive for AI semi/hardware companies in general than for Nvidia in particular. The sales guide was respectable given Blackwell's delay, purchase commitments soared, and demand

So @nvidia falling like a rock despite the beat and not raise enough lol. You have to love the retail volatility.

$NVDA “a change in the mask to boost the yield” This was a key phrase and again most people including the institutions that trade this stock don't understand the tech The worry is that a Blackwell defect in the mask which is an actual piece of metal at the production level was

It's interesting that $NVDA takes equity positions in AI startups. Shouldn't AI startups be taking equity in $NVDA as a way to hedge their GPU liabilities?
  • @benbajarin Ben Bajarin on x
You have to love that @nvidia still claims they sell AI PCs, powerd by RTX, even though no one accepts their defintion or includes them in their AI PC categories.

@EdLudlow @TheStalwart Sure but also Nvidia knows where that spend is coming back to as well. They are investing idle cash into a business, booking a good portion of that cash back as revenue and getting the equity if it takes off. They get good revenue numbers and an intrinsic d…

$NVDA first take: the guidance is much better than investors' first take (stock down 1%). The company guided revenue up ~3% for October, which includes the negative impact of what appears to be a 2-3 month Blackwell delay. In other words, if there was no delay, the guidance would

Great chart, and note from @jaygoldberg. @Nvidia now claims 82% of the data center wallet, up a bit from last quarter, and up from 66% this time last year. AMD is 80 bps in share below Intel, and looks set to overtake them in the coming quarter. https://digitstodollars.com/ ... […
