Hell of a journey here this year - TCS migrated to CrowdStrike, announced a strategic partnership, all their systems got nuked, then they got a $10 Uber Eats voucher (which got withdrawn as it got flagged as fraud) [image]

Many people probably don't remember that in the aftermath of the Gimli Glider (Air Canada flight that had to emergency land due to being out of fuel—40y01d ago), Air Canada dispatched a van to assess damage...which also ran out of fuel. Same energy.

After such a devastating incident that CrowdStrike caused, two things could happen: 1. A “come to Jesus” moment that really changes the company's culture for the better, and the long-term. The company (eventually) bounces back. 2. Performative actions; nothing really changes.

If you want to know the bubble the cybersecurity industry exists in.. this comment (they're the CEO of a security vendor) combined with the likes (which include from CrowdStrike staff). [image]

CrowdStrike - the company behind the mass global IT outage last week - has faced a backlash for giving $10 Uber Eats vouchers to the “teammates and partners” who dealt with the crisis. Reporting by my colleague @shermannatalie Read more https://www.bbc.com/...

Are we sure this isn't to compensate Uber Eats for the outage? Because there's not ONE DAMN THING you can buy on Uber Eats for $10, so everyone that uses the gift card is funneling money their way...

ZeroCool crashed 1,507 computer systems in one day—including Wall Street trading systems—when he was only 11, and he was sentenced to probation and couldn't use a computer or touchtone telephone until his 18th birthday but CrowdStrike gets off with $10 gift cards?? smdh

It rules how out of touch companies are. Crash millions of computers worldwide, cause billions in damages, and then send a $10 ubereats gift card as an apology. [image]

Did.... Did CrowdStrike just offer people a pizza party to “show support” for their hard work during the outage?

I have an opinion piece in me about how CrowdStrike offering a $10 food voucher as compensation for $5.4 billion in losses across Fortune 500 companies is the perfect example of tech bro thinking, if anyone is reading

NEW: CrowdStrike sent partners a $10 UberEats gift card to apologize for the outage. “We send our heartfelt thanks and apologies for the inconvenience,” the email read. “To express our gratitude, your next cup of coffee or late night snack is on us!” https://techcrunch.com/...
  • @patrickwardle Patrick Wardle on x
I was rather skeptical that this wasn't an elaborate joke, but yes, @CrowdStrike has apparently emailed its customers & offered a ~$10 UberEats gift card/coupon for any “inconvenience” ...and yes, it errors out when one goes to redeem it, saying it has been cancelled 🫠 [image]

UPDATE: CrowdStrike's spokesperson Kevin Benacci finally sent us a statement: “We did send these to our teammates and partners who have been helping customers through this situation. Uber flagged it as fraud because of high usage rates.” https://techcrunch.com/...

I assume CrowdStrike is trying their best but this is so frustrating. It's counterintuitive, but the greater the reputational damage, the less you can fix it with money. Any number is too small. A well done and sincere apology letter would've been more effective — and free.
