Amazon hires the CEO and co-founders of Adept, which builds AI agents that automate enterprise workflows, to join its AGI team and will use some of Adept's tech

Amazon is amping up its AI efforts by hiring executives from Adept, a San Francisco-based startup building “agents” that automate enterprise workflows.

Amazon hiring the founders of Adept AI which raised $415M is reminiscent of Microsoft hiring the founders of Inflection AI.  I see this as a sign that even with hundreds of millions raised, startups simply can't keep up with the cost of competing with big tech.

Amazon has hired Adept AI's top executive and founding team in a move that mirrors Microsoft and Inflection a few months ago.  Now we'll find out if the EU will make good on its warnings to investigate companies that poach founding teams rather than acquire startups.

I like how they buried the most important sentence > “key employees are jumping ship” in the middle, like people would not notice 😂

Wow, another “don't call it an acquisition” AI deal like Inflection/Microsoft this time with Adept/Amazon.

hats off to Microsoft, a real trend setter in corporate development these past few years during era of antitrust attacks. Sundar & Andy have learned a thing or two from Satya

What's with founders of these AI startups raising bucket loads of money & then leaving to join a tech giant? Do they see trouble brewing & jumping ship early? Think they don't have ability to compete long-term? https://www.geekwire.com/...

This combination (hiring key people and taking a technology license) increasingly gets regulatory scrutiny. There are antitrust enforcers who want to treat it as a merger, especially if it's about AI, though there is no precedent under the law as it stands.

another agent foundation model company bites the dust—they had raised 413M. wonder if Imbue or Magic AI will be next?

looks like Amazon has quasi-acquired Adept just like Microsoft did Inflection

“In addition, the Adept co-founders and some of the team are joining Amazon's AGI organization to continue to pursue the mission of building useful general intelligence. Amazon is also licensing Adept's agent technology, family of state-of-the-art multimodal models, and a few

Inflection and Adept. It's clear that foundation model is a game for $100b+/yr rev company. OAI is a real outlier. Does https://c.ai/ has enough gas for next stage?

Maybe Amazon will finally catch up on models. Very bullish for OSS. There's no one more incentivized than Amazon to make sure open models stay on the frontier [image]

AWS making moves! Agents for AWS Bedrock rolled out at re:invent and can be powered by Adept's models designed to take actions in browsers and understand graphical/analytical interfaces.

“Adept will now focus entirely on solutions that enable agentic AI” I believe more AI labs, even SOTA-level, could entirely stop training own models and instead focus their resources on AI agents.
