Sony unveils a $60 PC adapter for the PlayStation VR2, adding PC support to the PS5-exclusive headset, launching on August 7 with support for all Steam VR games
Sony had previously said it was testing PC support for PS VR2, a headset introduced as a PS5-only product alongside Sense controllers and headphones. The adapter turns that stated intention into a defined accessory and launch plan.
The move matters because it lets Sony connect PS VR2 to SteamVR rather than keeping the headset’s value tied solely to the PS5 ecosystem.
First-order effects
PS VR2 owners gain a $60 path to run the headset with SteamVR games when the adapter launches on August 7.
Sony changes PS VR2 from a PS5-exclusive headset into hardware that can serve both its console users and PC VR users.
Second-order effects
SteamVR developers can address PS VR2 owners without Sony needing to expand the headset’s PS5-native software catalog first.
The adapter makes PS VR2’s purchase proposition less dependent on PlayStation-only use, increasing competitive pressure on VR hardware that is sold primarily for PC access or a single platform.
Third-order effects
If Sony continues to support cross-platform use, VR hardware competition may shift further toward display, controller, price, and software-library access rather than strict platform exclusivity.
The release is a small example of the earlier PC-support test becoming a commercial bridge: platform holders can preserve their core ecosystem while widening hardware utility through accessories.
The trend: Dedicated gaming hardware is increasingly being positioned as cross-ecosystem equipment when exclusive software alone is insufficient to maximize its value.

this is Sony's PSVR 2 adapter for PC. It launches in August, priced at $59.99, and will support all Steam VR games. Some features won't be supported on PC, though. Details below 👇 https://www.theverge.com/...
-HDR -Headset feedback, -Eye tracking, -Adaptive triggers, and -Haptic feedback are NOT available when playing on PC. What is even the point then if you take out everything that made the headset special?
A $60 adapter to make your PSVR2 work with your PC is a pretty good deal for anyone who already purchased one. Bummer it doesn't support haptics, eye tracking, and HDR though. That kills my interest in buying one.
With the announcement of the PSVR2 to PC adapter: We can now dispel the speculation that this internal/unreleased SteamVR Eye Tracking system added last year was for PSVR2 on PC
@PlayStation Ok so this is basically just turning #PSVR2 into a VR “monitor” of sorts for PC, while making sure that the controllers work too. No One to One feature parity to its capabilities on #PS5 [image]
No HDR means that Sony is just feature bashing to keep PS5 relevant, because there's very little reason for HDR to be limited. I kinda understand features where there might not be a general API, but feels weird that Sony didn't cover most Steam VR compatibility
i was on board until this part, which ... isn't great. i mean this is better than the current status quo, but the lack of these features is a problem, and when combined with the cable aspect of the PSVR2, the quest 3 still outshines it as a PC headset. https://blog.playstation.co…
It's awesome that they are officially supporting PSVR 2 on PC cause it's a great headset, but hopefully someone in the community can figure out how to get the eye tracking to work. That would make it one of the best headsets you could buy in that price range! [image]
